La Niña Induced Expanding Drought Across NM
The evolution of the extreme drought conditions in New Mexico from the fall of 2010 through spring 2011 is highlighted in the most recent edition of the La Niña Drought Tracker. As of May 3, 61% of the state was experiencing extreme or exceptional drought, mostly due to prevailing La Niña conditions during the winter and spring. The drought is having impacts on reservoir levels, wildfire, and agriculture across the state.
