Texas Groundwater Levels Surpass 60-Year Low
The latest groundwater storage map based on data from NASA’s Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellites shows severely depressed groundwater levels spanning the region from Arizona to Florida. The largest concentration of groundwater storage depletion is in eastern Texas, where groundwater levels are the lowest seen in more than sixty years. According to NASA, it will take months of sustained above-average precipitation to significantly raise aquifer levels.
