In order to evaluate the effects of climate change on water availability in the U.S., Department of the Interior agencies have released two new products. The Bureau of Reclamation developed a new online tool that produces Excel spreadsheets of daily and monthly projected streamflow from 1950 through 2099 at 195 sites in the western U.S. for 112 different projected precipitation/temperature scenarios. The U.S. Geological Survey published a new report outlining the effects of climate change on fourteen U.S. water basins, primarily in the West. The effects were determined by using the output of five different climate models and four different greenhouse-gas-emission scenarios to simulate precipitation runoff responses at the local (watershed) scale. These new tools were designed to help water managers and planners meet their future water needs.
