Fires Still Blaze in the SW

There are currently 19 active large fires in the U.S., 12 of which are in Southwest states, reports the National Interagency Fire Center. The largest fire is still the Whitewater-Baldy fire in New Mexico which has burned a total of 297,000 acres and is now 87 percent contained. The second largest fire is the High Park fire in Colorado burning 68,200 acres and is only 55 percent contained. The High Park fire has so far killed one person and destroyed 189 homes near Fort Collins.
