May Global Temperatures Second Warmest on Record

The average global temperature in May was the second warmest on record, with a combined global land and ocean surface temperature of 1.19 degrees F above the 20th century average, according to the newest State of the Climate from NOAA. However, the global land surface temperature alone, not including ocean surface temperature, was the all-time warmest on record for May with a temperature 2.18 degrees F above the 20th century average. May was also the 36th consecutive May and the 327th consecutive month in which global temperatures were above the 20th century average.
