Texas Court Ruling Protects Atmosphere, Air—Not Just Water
A Texas district judge ruled last week that the atmosphere and air must be protected in the same ways as water, stating that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s “conclusion that the public trust doctrine is exclusively limited to the conservation of water is legally invalid.” The Associated Press reports that the ruling will be a huge help for attorneys working to get states to cut emissions, especially in Texas where the state government has refused to regulate greenhouse emissions.
