CA Announces Ambitious Fix to Water Woes
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and California Governor Jerry Brown announced their plan for moving forward on the Bay Delta Conservation Plan, which will include two 35-mile tunnels to divert water from the Sacramento River to the existing aqueduct system and bypassing the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, reports the LA Times. The $23 billion plan is designed to improve the reliability of water supplies for those dependent on the system, as well as improve the health of the Delta ecosystem by restoring fish populations and protecting water quality. The parties involved will continue to work with public water agencies and other interested parties over the next few months, and expect to issue a draft plan for public review in the fall.
