New Tool Allows CA Water Mangers to Evaluate Urban Water Demand
The Pacific Institute has created a model to analyze future urban water demand in California through 2100, and how it will be impacted by changes in climate, population, and conservation efforts. The report shows that the state’s urban water demand could increase 8 percent by 2100 due to climate change, but that conservation practices, such as reducing urban per-capita demand, could potentially decrease this percentage. The free tool associated with the report gives water managers the ability to test hypotheses for their particular area and to compare different futures by altering factors such as greenhouse gas emissions, population growth, and conservation measures.
