The New Mexico Environment Department recently released draft rules for the regulation and trading of greenhouse gases by entities within the state. The rule will enable New Mexico to participate in the regional Western Climate Initiative’s greenhouse gas cap-and-trade program.

This workshop will introduce participants to the economics of cap and trade systems for limiting emissions of pollutants. The initial part of the workshop is a market experiment/simulation in which those attending participate as decision makers in a cap and trade system.

One day, reporting greenhouse gas emissions will be the law of the land. Until then, more than 270 North American organizations have already agreed to report their emissions—voluntarily—as part of The Climate Registry.
